I like the Cthulhu Mythos. Hell I like it a lot. There is something deeply frightening and sadistic about being part of a world that couldn't care less whether your entire species lives or dies. They are evil (the "they" here being the deities and beats of the mythos itself) but even more frightening to me is the indifference. You cannot reason with Cthulhu or Azathoth, it is going to kill and devour the world whether you object or not. And honestly, it might not even know that it wiped out your species. That to me is more frightening than any amount of evil, and that is why I love the Cthulhu Mythos.
